Stephen Rush
Stephen graduated from the University of New South Wales with one of the first combined Science/Law degrees issued in New South Wales.
In 1982 he commenced working as a solicitor in a respected legal firm in the city progressing to partner in 1987. In 1989 he established Esplins with Phillip Esplin. From there he has been instrumental in the growth of Esplins to its current respected position amongst Sydney city legal firms, regularly “punching above its weight”.
Stephen’s respect amongst clients and the extent to which his advice and commercial acumen is valued has led to his appointment as a non-executive director of a number of important and valued clients.
In his spare time, Stephen enjoys his agricultural interests which, while challenging, can be rewarding and relaxing in a perverse way.
Hamish Esplin
Hamish is the son of founder of the firm Phillip Esplin and has been with Esplins for almost fifteen years. Stephen and Hamish have been partners in Esplins Solicitors since 2011 and continue to build on the commitment and quality of work the firm has provided to clients in over 30 years. Hamish holds a Masters of Law from Sydney University and practises extensively in all aspects of commercial law including running many large and small litigation matters in the District Court, Supreme Court and Court of Appeal in NSW as well as the NSW Consumer and Tenancy Tribunal. Hamish has also conducted many commercial transactions ranging from small business sales of $5m to large scale transactions up to $45m. He has represented both purchasers and vendors across a range of industries and can provide pre- and post-transaction tax and estate planning advice.
Hamish is adept at handling particularly difficult or novel problems which arise in the business as well as personal areas including in relation to estate disputes, guardianship matters and family law settlements. Because of his background in thoroughbred racing and breeding Hamish also has experience and knowledge in dealing with all aspects of the industry including in relation to contractual disputes, all employment issues, business and tax structuring advice, licensing hearings, syndication advice, and the purchase and sale of bloodstock including stallions.
